Spokane County is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 census, its population was 539,339, making it the fourth-most populous county in Washington. The largest city and county seat is Spokane, the second largest city in the state after Seattle. The county is named after the Spokane tribe.

Spokane is a city in eastern Washington state. It's home to the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, which explores the region’s history through exhibits on art, culture and Native American heritage. Next door, Tudor-style Campbell House dates from the early 1900s. Vast Riverfront Park, site of the 1974 World's Fair, has a sculpture walk. In the park, a cable car offers views over tumbling Spokane Falls.

Airway Heights celebrated its 50-year history June 14, 2005 and has Carl M. and Flora K. Lundstrom to thank for early city-building. The Lundstroms were the first to plat the land, donate parcels for initial city building and worked towards incorporation in 1955. Carl M. and Flora K. Lundstrom had worked in real estate in Seattle and Electric City in the early 1940s and owned Rocket Investment Company. Discussions with officials at Galena Air Depot (which later became Fairchild Air Force Base) showed the need for local housing.

Spokane Airports is jointly owned by Spokane County and the City of Spokane. The city and county operate the airports under provisions of RCW 14.08, which establishes the operation of airports by more than one municipality under joint agreement.  The operating authority of Spokane Airports is the Spokane Airport Board, consisting of seven appointees from the two governmental bodies.  The Board annually invests approximately $30 million in capital improvements utilizing various funding sources.

The Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) is the lead agency for transportation planning services for the area covered by Spokane County. The agency has several roles; at the federal level, SRTC is designated a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), while it is designated a Regional Transportation Planning Organization (RTPO) by state law.

Medical Lake is a city in Spokane County, eastern Washington, United States. At the 2010 census, the population was 5,060. The city is the site of a psychiatric hospital, Eastern State Hospital, and of Fairchild Air Force Base, two major employers.

Cheney is a city in Spokane County, Washington, United States. The full-time resident population was 10,590 as of 2010 census. Eastern Washington University is located in Cheney. When classes are in session at EWU, the city's population reaches approximately 17,600 people on a temporary basis.

The Spokane Tribe of Indians ancestors inhabited much of northeastern Washington which consisted of approximately 3 million acres. At times they extended their hunting, fishing, and gathering grounds into Idaho and Montana.

 

Spokane ancestors were a river people, living a semi-nomadic way of life hunting, fishing, and gathering all the creator had made available to them. Living along the banks of the Spokane and Columbia rivers and scattered up the tributaries. Their primary diet consisted of what was taken from the water ways in the form of salmon, steelhead, eel, and shellfish which made up 60% of their diet.

Today the Spokane Tribe of Indians primary government operations are located in Wellpinit Washington with a citizen population of approximately 2,900 enrolled members.

The West Plains Chamber of Commerce represents more than 300 members and a regional workforce of just over 32,000, located west of Spokane, WA. Founded in 1942 by local business leaders in Cheney, the Chamber has grown to include the cities of Airway Heights and Medical Lake, as well as Fairchild Air Force Base, two tribes and unincorporated areas of Spokane County.The West Plains is the fastest growing light industrial area in Washington State.
